Erika

Erika was born and raised in Merryville, Louisiana where she graduated in 2005. At this time she moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana to pursue her Associates Degree while attending McNeese State University. During her time of living in Lake Charles, Erika worked with many different animal fields ranging from retail work with PetSmart and Petco, volunteering with Animal Angels to help build a discount spay and neuter facility and eventually landing a job with Animal Medical Center in Moss Bluff, Louisiana where she started her official career in the veterinary world. In August of 2013 Erika and her husband moved out of state and started their life together Texas. Erika was able to start working with Bay Glen Animal Hospital in August of 2014 as a Kennel Technician and quickly moved up to the position of Kennel Manager in October of 2014. Erika has quickly shown her passion and drive to improve herself and now is a Technician at Bay Glen Animal Hospital and fully surgical trained as well as taking classes to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant. Erika has also worked for 2 years with VCA Animal Emergency Clinic Southeast location as a Technician for overnight work where she gained more experience in emergency situations as well as monitoring different surgical techniques. She is also currently volunteering with Homeless Pet Placement League (HPPL) and has been since October of 2018 with helping in their cat adoption area helping socialize and clean the areas. Erika’s passion for animal started at a very young age when she would frequently bring home injured lizards and frogs to nurse and release into her back yard. She has a passion for rescuing animals and from this has become the proud pet parent of many through her lifetime. She has taken in terminally ill unadoptable pets just to give them a home for their last few months of life while working in pet retail and from this is an advocate for “Adopt Don’t Shop”. Her passion has always been in helping to ensure the health of all of the animals that she encounters, whether they be at work or in the wild. Erika and her husband are currently the proud pet parents of 7 cats: Mya, a 10 year old grey tabby; Sierra, a 9 year old Russian Blue Manx; Marshmallow, an 8 year old dilute Calico; Einstein, a 3 year old long hair Black and White Tuxedo; Smitty, a 2 year old long haired Buff and White Tabby; Mercedes, a 2 year old orange and white tabby named for the car brand engine she was stuck in; and Tia Tiny, a 2 year old brown and black tabby that was previously feral. She also has 2 snakes: Ahreddan (whose name means “survivor”) who is a 10 year old male Sand Boa who is blind on one side from previous owners neglect and Nagini who is a 2 year old red and yellow Corn Snake. Outside from working with animals Erika enjoys reading as much as possible and running. She also enjoys photography as a hobby.
